Bài 4 (tr.108): Work in pairs – Agree or disagree

Đề: Làm việc theo cặp. Nói cho nhau biết em đồng ý hay không đồng ý với các ý sau.

  1. We should not use our smartphones for more than a few hours every day.
  2. By 2050, the way people communicate with each other will be different from now.

Đây là bài nói nêu quan điểm. Gợi ý mẫu câu:

  • I agree with this idea. Using smartphones too much is bad for our eyes and health.
  • I disagree. Sometimes we need our phones for studying and working.
  • I think that's true. In 2050, people might use telepathy or talking robots instead of phones.

Bài 5 (tr.108): Possessive pronouns – Viết lại câu

Ghi nhớ: Có thể dùng đại từ sở hữu (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) sau "of".
Ví dụ: Mi is one of my friends → Mi is a friend of mine.

  1. Jack is one of her cousins.

→ Jack is a cousin of hers.

  1. Is this one of his tablets?

→ Is this a tablet of his?

  1. Can I borrow a pencil of yours?

→ Can I borrow one of your pencils?

  1. You look like Nick and Peter. Are you one of their relatives?

→ Are you a relative of theirs?

  1. Last year, two of our classmates won scholarships to the US.

→ Last year, two classmates of ours won scholarships to the US.

Giải thích: "one of her cousins" = "a cousin of hers" (đều nghĩa là "một người anh/chị em họ của cô ấy"). Câu 3 đi ngược lại: từ "a pencil of yours" đổi thành "one of your pencils". Các câu khác đổi sang dạng "a + danh từ + of + đại từ sở hữu".

COMMUNICATION (tr.108)

Bài 1: Listen and read – Interrupting politely (Ngắt lời lịch sự)

Đề: Nghe và đọc các đoạn hội thoại. Chú ý phần được tô màu.

Đoạn 1:

  • Mark: Now, about the video conference... Everyone must be here at 9:30 a.m., and...
  • Trang: Sorry for interrupting, but I think we should meet at 9:00 a.m. We need to test the devices.

Đoạn 2:

  • Nick: This webcam is easy to handle. You click these buttons to move it up or down and these to...
  • Lan: Hold on. Can you repeat that, please?

Cách ngắt lời lịch sự cần học:

  • Sorry for interrupting, but... (Xin lỗi vì ngắt lời, nhưng...)
  • Hold on. (Khoan đã.)

Bài 2: Make similar conversations

Đề: Làm việc theo cặp, tạo hội thoại tương tự cho các tình huống sau.

Tình huống 1 – A hướng dẫn B gọi video, B ngắt lời để hỏi rõ:

  • A: First, you open the app, then you tap the camera icon and...
  • B: Sorry for interrupting, but which icon do you mean?

Tình huống 2 – A nói địa điểm họp, B ngắt lời gợi ý chỗ khác:

  • A: Let's meet at the library for our next meeting...
  • B: Hold on. Why don't we meet at the café? It's quieter.

Bài 3 (tr.108–109): Read Mark's prediction & answer questions

Đoạn của Mark (dịch):
"In 20 years, people of all ages will be using emojis even more than now. Emojis help people communicate their emotions effectively regardless of the language they speak. For example, a smiley face expresses the same meaning everywhere. An emoji can replace words to a certain extent. One day, we might receive an email that contains only emojis!"

→ "Trong 20 năm nữa, mọi lứa tuổi sẽ dùng emoji nhiều hơn bây giờ. Emoji giúp con người thể hiện cảm xúc hiệu quả bất kể họ nói ngôn ngữ nào. Ví dụ, mặt cười mang cùng ý nghĩa ở mọi nơi. Emoji có thể thay thế từ ngữ ở một mức độ nào đó. Một ngày nào đó, ta có thể nhận được email chỉ toàn emoji!"

Từ khó: emoji (biểu tượng cảm xúc), regardless of (bất kể), express (diễn đạt), to a certain extent (ở một mức độ nào đó), replace (thay thế).

Trả lời câu hỏi (tr.109):

  1. What means of communication is Mark talking about?

→ He is talking about emojis.

  1. When will emojis become more commonly used?

→ In 20 years.

  1. Who will be using them?

→ People of all ages.

  1. How will they help in communication?

→ They help people communicate their emotions effectively regardless of the language they speak.

  1. Why will they become more popular?

→ Because they express the same meaning everywhere and can replace words to a certain extent.

Bài 4 (tr.109): Choose one means of communication, ask & answer

Đề: Chọn một phương tiện giao tiếp bên dưới và hỏi đáp về nó.

Gợi ý hỏi đáp với mục 1 (Automatic translation function):

  • A: When will the automatic translation function be popular? → B: In 10 years.
  • A: Who will use it? → B: Social network users.
  • A: How will it work? → B: It will translate comments and private messages in all languages.
  • A: Why is it useful? → B: It removes language barriers.

Gợi ý với mục 2 (Chatbot):

  • A: Who will use chatbots? → B: Sellers of online shops.
  • A: How will they work? → B: They will instantly reply to customers in all languages.
  • A: Why are they helpful? → B: They help sell more products to customers from other countries.

Bài 5 (tr.109): Report your pair's conversation

Đề: Báo cáo lại hội thoại của cặp em trước lớp, theo mẫu dự đoán của Mark ở bài 3.

Bài nói mẫu:
"In 10 years, social network users will be using the automatic translation function more than now. It will translate comments and private messages in all languages. This is helpful because it removes language barriers, so people from different countries can understand each other easily."

SKILLS 1 – Reading (tr.109)

Bài 1: List ways of communication

Đề: Làm việc theo cặp. Liệt kê càng nhiều cách giao tiếp càng tốt.

Gợi ý: meeting face to face, sending letters, chatting online, making phone calls, sending emails, video calling, sending text messages, using social media, sending voice messages.

Bài 2: Read the interview "TELEPATHY"

Đề: Đọc bài phỏng vấn với hai học sinh Minh và Tom. Sau đó đánh dấu (✓) người nói mỗi câu.

Dịch nội dung chính:

  • MC: Chào mọi người. Hôm nay tôi sẽ hỏi vài thành viên Câu lạc bộ Công nghệ dự đoán cách con người giao tiếp trong tương lai.
  • Minh: Bọn em chủ yếu nhắn tin cho nhau, cũng gửi tin nhắn thoại.
  • Tom: Em thường gặp bạn trực tiếp, nhưng đôi khi gọi qua Internet.
  • Tom (50 năm tới): Không hẳn. Bọn em sẽ dùng cách tiên tiến hơn, như thần giao cách cảm (telepathy) — truyền suy nghĩ sang người khác mà không cần nói.
  • MC: Khoan đã. Tôi nghĩ chỉ rất ít người có khả năng này.
  • Minh: Vâng, nhưng trong tương lai ai cũng dùng được. Ta sẽ đeo một thiết bị nhỏ để bắt suy nghĩ và gửi cho người khác.
  • Tom (nhược điểm): Thiết bị telepathy có thể "đọc" tâm trí, nên kẻ xấu có thể lợi dụng để điều khiển người khác.
  • MC: Ngoài ra, một số người sẽ lười đến mức không buồn nói chuyện nữa.

Từ khó: telepathy (thần giao cách cảm), predict (dự đoán), keep in contact (giữ liên lạc), in person (trực tiếp), advanced (tiên tiến), tiny device (thiết bị nhỏ xíu), take advantage of (lợi dụng), control (điều khiển), lazy (lười).

Gợi ý xác định người nói (dựa vào nội dung bài đọc):

  • "We mostly text each other / send voice messages." → Minh
  • "I often see my friends in person." → Tom
  • "We'll use telepathy in the future." → Tom
