1. In the old pictures, I can see an old street with trams and low-rise buildings, and the way Hanoians got around in the past. In the new pictures, I can see a modern city with high-rise buildings, lakes, wide roads and a metro line.

1. The pictures show how Ha Noi has changed over the years. In the past, it was a small, quiet city where people travelled by bicycle, on foot or by tram. Now it is a big, modern and crowded city with better infrastructure but also more traffic and pollution.

Bài 2: Read the article – Choose the correct meanings

Đề: Chọn nghĩa đúng của các từ được tô màu trong bài đọc.

1. residents → A. people who live in a particular place

• residents = cư dân, người sống ở một nơi. Trong bài "530,000 residents" = 530.000 cư dân.

1. colonial → B. connected with a country that controls another country

• colonial = thuộc địa, liên quan đến nước đi cai trị nước khác. "French colonial buildings" = các tòa nhà kiểu Pháp thời thuộc địa.

1. gradually → A. slowly, over a period of time

• gradually = dần dần, từ từ qua thời gian. "gradually expanded" = mở rộng dần dần.

I would prefer to live in Ha Noi at present. Although the city is now more crowded and has more traffic jams, it offers many more opportunities. There are better job opportunities, modern infrastructure such as new roads, bridges and the metro, and more affordable housing. Life is more convenient with modern transport and services. Of course, problems like air pollution and traffic still need to be solved, but I believe a modern city gives young people a brighter future.

I would prefer to live in Ha Noi in the past. Life was slower, quieter and more peaceful. People got around by bicycle or on foot, so there was less traffic and less pollution. The old streets and French colonial buildings made the city beautiful and full of character. Although it was a small city, I think people enjoyed a calmer and healthier life.
