• Câu 1: Câu hỏi đuôi (question tag) lên giọng ↗ → người nói chưa chắc chắn.

Grammar – Reported speech: reporting orders, requests, offers, and advice

Remember! (Câu tường thuật mệnh lệnh, yêu cầu, đề nghị, lời khuyên)

Điểm chính:

• Khi tường thuật mệnh lệnh/yêu cầu/đề nghị/lời khuyên, dùng động từ tường thuật + (tân ngữ) + to-infinitive.
• Các động từ tường thuật thường gặp: ask, tell, advise, command, order, instruct, invite, encourage, persuade, remind, warn...
• Một số động từ theo sau là tân ngữ + to V: ask, tell, advise, order...
• Ví dụ: My fitness instructor advised me to take up a sport.
• Một số động từ KHÔNG có tân ngữ trước to V: offer, propose, agree, demand.
• Ví dụ: My brother offered to pay for my driving lessons.
• Mệnh lệnh phủ định → dùng not + to V.
• Ví dụ: Mark's mother told/warned him not to stay out late.

Bài 1: Rewrite in reported speech (Viết lại câu tường thuật)

Đề: Rewrite the sentences in reported speech, using the correct forms of the verbs in the box.

Hộp từ: ask – offer – tell – advise

1. 'Find more information about the course you want to apply,' my mother told me.

→ My mother told me to find more information about the course I wanted to apply (for).

(Đây là mệnh lệnh → dùng tell + me + to V)

1. 'Can you send me the list of available online courses?' my friend asked.

→ My friend asked me to send him/her the list of available online courses.

(Yêu cầu lịch sự → ask + me + to V)

1. 'I'll teach you how to use mobile applications,' my brother said.

→ My brother offered to teach me how to use mobile applications.
(Lời đề nghị tự nguyện "I'll..." → offer to V, không có tân ngữ)

1. 'You shouldn't waste so much time on social media,' the head teacher said.

→ The head teacher advised me not to waste so much time on social media.

(Lời khuyên phủ định "shouldn't" → advise + me + not to V)

Bài 2: Work in pairs (Nói theo cặp)

Đề: Talk about what people around you often say to encourage you to learn new things every day. Use reported speech to report their orders, requests, offers, and advice.

Gợi ý bài nói mẫu:

My parents often encourage me to study a little English every day. My mother always reminds me to do my homework before playing games. My English teacher advised me to read short stories to improve my vocabulary, and she told me not to be afraid of making mistakes. My best friend offered to help me with maths whenever I have difficulties. My older sister asked me to join her online coding course so that we can learn together.

Một số mẫu câu hữu ích để tự nói:

• My ... encouraged me to + V...
• My ... advised me to + V... / advised me not to + V...
• My ... reminded me to + V...
• My ... offered to + V...
• My ... told me to + V... / told me not to + V...

Mẹo nhỏ: nhớ phân biệt động từ có tân ngữ (tell/ask/advise/remind/encourage me to V) và động từ không tân ngữ (offer/agree/promise to V).
